The very first edition of The Thunderbolt. This was the official regimental newspaper published by the men of the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army.
In this very first edition, the regiment said goodbye to their training camp at Camp Toccoa. The newspaper describes how plans had been set in motion to move the First Battalion (under
the command of Lieutenant Colonel Boyle) to Fort Benning. Here, the men would complete their basic training and begin the grueling paratrooper training ("Jump School") to earn their coveted jump wings ("Wings")
and paratrooper boots ("Boots").
The newspaper is still in reasonably good condition.
